Morocco trip part 2!
Atlas Mountains, Atlas Studios and Ait-Ben-Haddou
I think out of all the tours we had, this is the one I would most recommend.
Our day started out early at 7:05 am. The drive is around 3 hours if I remember correctly and we were able to catch the sunset on our way to Ouarzazate. Again, we booked this tour via Getyourguide. The views on the way were breathtaking. I love the landscape. We had a few stops for photos and we went to a cooperative where they showed us how they make argan oil. I bought something for my mother because she has been using products with moroccan argan oil for a long time.
Then the landscape changed. From green mountains and different shades of green to brown hills, clay buildings and sand. We were in Ouarzazate. Our first stop was the Atlas Studio where we were taken around the studio by a guide. It was a film studio but I liked it. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but this part of the tour was optional.
Next up was Ait-Ben-Haddou— the highlight of the trip.
We had lunch at a restaurant. What I didn’t like was we were forced to sit with some people from our tour bus. We weren’t able to build rapport and I’m an introvert. I don’t travel to meet fellow travelers so this was a bit unpleasant for me. (The other tours we joined had free seating since food is usually not included in the fee.) and it didn’t help that the other guests weren’t friendly and even tried taking my friend’s seat. Anyway, the food was good. Not a fan of the salad but the tajin was excellent.
After lunch we were bound for the ancient town. I won’t give too much information since that’s freely available online but it was nice to see how people used to live and learn about the Berber people.
My friend and I got this painting with our names in Berber. It was cool seeing how it is made. It cost €10.
There was a bit of a hiking involved, definitely doable. I was wearing flats (think: Hermes Orans) and I managed fine.
Then it was time to go back to Marrakech. The beautiful landscape plus the beauty of the sunset made the ride home very beautiful.
There will be a part 3 it seems 😀
